Holiday guests always seem to end up in your bathroom. A little prep now keeps it clean, working and welcoming when the house is full.
1. Run the fan and look at the ceiling
A fan that runs quietly and moves air keeps mirrors and walls from fogging up when everyone is showering. If it is noisy or weak, clean the cover and the dust behind it.
2. Check the caulk and grout
Look where the tub or shower meets the wall and around the sink. Cracked or moldy caulk is worth redoing before guests arrive, and it helps keep water out of the wall.
3. Test everything that runs
Flush the toilet, run every faucet, and fill and drain the sink and tub. Watch for slow drains, drips or a toilet that keeps running. Look under the sink for damp spots.
4. Make it easy to use
Add a fresh bath mat, set out towels, and keep extra toilet paper and a plunger where guests can find them. A nightlight helps people who get up in the dark in an unfamiliar house.
5. Check the floor
Wet feet on slippery tile are a common holiday mishap. A non-slip mat outside the tub or shower is a simple fix.
6. Declutter and clear some space
Clear the counter and give guests a shelf or a hook of their own.
